Here’s a bluegrass style solo on a classic song that will help you practice playing out of “closed” position (no open strings.)
This will allow you to play the song in all 12 keys without changing the fingerings, all you’ll have to do is start on a different fret. Simple songs like these are great tools for working on playing in different keys because the tune is recognizable. It will also help you be ready when someone calls this tune at a jam in a key you’re not as familiar with.
These positions can be used to play tons of other bluegrass songs so this is a great lesson for exploring some more of the fingerboard!
